Studio

Cyc and floor lighting has taken many hours of meticulous design to achieve even consistent levels across the entire cyc wall and floor, utilizing 10-12,000 watts tungsten 3200k. This is critical for good clean keys/mattes. Whether you choose to use our studio lighting or your own to light the subjects in the scene, as far as lighting the studio green cyc, you will want to take advantage of the cyc pre-light and just turn the breakers on.

In the studio we can shoot green screen 1920p/i 24fps or 30fps HD SDI uncompressed direct to high speed disk RAID, which will provide exceptionally clean HD mattes, We can then use these clean hi-res images in our post work flow utilizing MAYA and MatchMover for animation, VFX and Toxic, Shake or After Effects for compositing your VFX sequence for you. Or, deliver it to you for use in your post suite, either un-matted ready for your keyer, or matted using our Autodesk Toxic compositer/keyer. Very high-end results ready for your post completion efforts.

Motorized Camera Jib

Our jib was custom designed to be smooth and versatile. It can be extended to 24' for those big down from the trees shots, or only 3' to ride on a dolly or other camera support. In the studio we can break it down further to 8', 12', 16', or 18' for greater control for those motion tracking shots for animation and VFX. The joy stick controls sit at the rear end along with a zoom/focus control and monitor.

This baby looks like it would be fun to operate, but it is very difficult. The operator has to control a joy stick, most often fighting against the counter moves of the jibs swing while operating zoom and monitoring the camera view. All while physically booming and swinging the jib arm. For this reason we do not rent this jib without the experienced operator.

If you want the boom height and moves, but can't afford a tulip crane, then the only way to get a camera operator on the end of a bigger jib arm is through the motorized jib remote controls.

Wire & Harness

The studio is equiped with a wire and harness rig. Our exerienced crew can operate the system effectively and safely.
The rig can provide any number of airborn shots as well as assist in stunts and VFX.

Post-Production

The Modern World Studio Post-Suite can handle all aspects of image manipulation, matte work, compositing, digital intermediate, color correction, etc. Our numerous multi-processor Zeon workstations, 28 Terabyts of RAID and another 8 Terabyts of 180 mg/sec for real-time 1920p/i HD uncompressed record and playback, plus the best Apps on the market allow us to work with all resolutions up to 4k.

If you are working with SD or HDV which has a very limited color space bit depth, we can take it up to HD 10bit RGB uncompressed with 4:4:4 color space for the post work. Even footage shot with 4:2:2 color space such as DVCproHD lacks important color information and is also highly compressed. The higher bit depth and 0 compression creates huge files and makes the process much more challenging both on the hardware, software and storage, but it is worth it when in the end we end up with a product that looks like you envisioned it (or better).

During the warm season, the pool here at the studio is open and ready for underwater work. Joel has designed underwater grip and camera support gear that has been working very well for both straight forward and underwater VFX work.

He has modified a scuba dive motorized scooter to serve as a camera mount and motion device. The scooter can be calibrated for neutral buoyancy at a specified depth, providing nice balanced and steady camera support. Then when desired, the propeller can be engaged to move the camera for some fantastic underwater camera shots.

Of course, Joel and all the gear can travel to any watery location. But when possible, it is convenient and efficient to shoot right here at the studio. There is ample power easily available for HMIs etc. Plus, the MWS pool is completely private and available for shooting 24/7.

Joel is a certified PADI deep water diver.
